Sporting news: Liverpool boss Klopp fined for clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been fined £30,000 for clashing with an assistant referee in the 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester City earlier this month, the Football Association said on Thursday.

Klopp was shown a red card for clashing with the referee after striker Mohamed Salah was sent off for a free-kick late in the second half at Anfield on October 16.

Klopp yelled at assistant referee Gary Beswick for not fouling Mohamed Salah in the 1-0 win at Anfield.

In a statement, the FA said: “Jurgen Klopp has been fined £30,000 for breaching FA Rule E3 in the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC on Sunday 16 October 2022. ”

Fine or ban?

The manager admitted his behavior in the 86th minute was inappropriate and was penalized by the Independent Supervisory Commission at the hearing.

Either Jurgen Klopp or the FA can appeal the penalty after receiving written reasons from the Independent Regulatory Commission. The fine means Klopp will be on the touchline as usual when Liverpool host Leeds in their next Premier League game.

If the FA believes the sanctions are too small, they have the right to appeal the decision.
