Orlando City loses 4-1 to Miami International

Orlando City lost 4-1 to Inter Miami on Wednesday night at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale . The defeat ended a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions with City’s southern neighbours, dating back to the start of the 2021 season, while designated player Facundo Torres set the club’s singles record with his 12th assist of the year. The season goal contribution record, combined with his 12 goals , brings his total to 24 , breaking Nani ‘s single-season record of 23 set in 2019 .

Torres’ assist came from a goal from El Cancala, who finished 12th in all competitions after coming on as a half-time substitute .

The Lions fell to eighth in the Eastern Conference standings due to the loss and now present a win-win situation against Columbus Crew SC on Sunday’s decision day.

Lineup Change

Pareja changed his squad to allow Pedro Gallese to play behind the backs of Joao Moutinho, Rodrigo Schlegel, Antonio Carlos and Kyle Smith . His attacking midfield consists of Benji Michel , Urso Jr. and Facundo Torres, with Tesau Akindler at the top. The lineup collapsed in less than a minute.

Smith somehow knocked down an opponent’s pass attempt, and the ball spewed out from behind the Orlando linebacker. Neither Carlos nor Schlegel went to get the ball, so Campana ran up and played Gallese, who wasn’t on his defense but wasn’t far enough to get the ball before the Miami forward. More than 30 seconds into the game , Orlando City fell behind.
