'Coaching change is nonsense' – Nice president backs coach Favre

Lucien Favre is not in danger of being dismissed, Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere insisted on Friday. Favre will continue to coach Nice despite the team’s poor start in Ligue 1.

“When I read from the media reports that we had negotiated an agreement with Lucien Favre to part ways, it was absurd,” Jean-Pierre Rivere told Le Nice Morning. “League”, “We will not change coaches after 8 games. Whether from a competitive or humanistic point of view, changing coaches is not a solution to the problem.”

Rivere’s remarks were undoubtedly a response to the French media, which had been spreading the news that Favre was sacked for weeks. He went on to say that the news of Nice‘s intention to sack Favre is utter nonsense: “(Sporting director) Dave (Brailsford) had a lengthy conversation with him yesterday and Lucien was very happy after the meeting. He was happy we were backing him. The rumors were unfounded and he said to me: ‘I know football and I still have confidence in the future.'”

A few days ago, it was reported that the former Paris Saint-Germain coach Pochettino was Nice’s first choice for the coaching position, and the two sides started negotiations for this. But Rivere denies this: “When I read that I was in talks with him, I was shocked, it was nonsense. No one from the club met or called Pochettino and his representatives.”

“Such rumors disrespect our current coach and undermine his authority. We will all be working with Lucien to recover as much as possible from a bad start to the season. We have not given him an ultimatum. ”

At present, Nice has only two wins, another 2 draws and 4 losses. They are 13th in the standings with 8 points.
